No Aero, no bubbles...

Posted by Phillip Munn at 02:52 PM on February 10, 2010 Comments comments (0)
No, I was joking about the bubbles.
Aero is the feature in Windows Vista and Windows 7 that allows for a glass effect, most noticeable around window borders.
Shown below is what you will see if you don't have Aero enabled on your computer.

Ideally, in a future version this might change and you will still be able to use the software, but until this happens, for now at least you can't use the software.

Users of Windows XP. You will not be able to use this software at the moment!

What's Happening? ...

JustPip Video Downloader 5.0
Currently little progress has been made since my last post, not because I'm stuck, but I have been busy with other things.
I have made a list of the current bugs and I am hoping to fix these before finishing the rest of the software.
No-one wants broken bits in the BETA and final versions.

Weather Monitor 1.2
Brand new software I've made recently!
Will NOT be appearing on this website because it is designed to read weather from a weather station connected to your computer.
Specifically my father's one!
The results of the latest version can be found on Twitter, with live weather updates every few minutes!

Check it out and follow the weather online at

3 Strikes and Your Out ...

The New 3 Strike Rule ...

One problem with the old system used to download videos is that once the video is downloaded a conversion tool not made by me was launched.
This would then convert the downloaded video. From time to time some videos would fail during the conversion and this caused some huge problems behind the scenes. The old code would just wait until the video had converted before continuing.

That's fine, but when it fails, then what?

The New 3 Strike Rule fixes this! - 3 attempts over 15 seconds and if the video still isn't there then the software stops, saving you from waiting and then nothing happening!

Obviously the plan is not to have to show this screen, although it's there just in case !

Also, I've made it clear when a video is Converting. This will make sure that you understand what's happening at all times.

2010, What a Year!

2010, What a Year!

Welcome to the first blog post of 2010, and what a year this is shaping up to be!
First of all there's a new Operating System, Windows 7 that seems to be so popular that people everywhere are moving towards it.
It's actually so good that I'm using a copy.
This gives me loads of new things to experiment with, including as you see below the ability to draw menu's that sit in the Application's title bar!

Great stuff, although currently in these very early builds of a future version of the Video Downloader, they won't work without ...
  • Either Windows Vista OR Windows 7
  • The Windows Aero Effect (Glass Look) must be enabled.

So people using Windows XP or that can't use Aero, for example Windows 7 Starter Edition, your currently in a fix.

2010 will be a great year I'm sure, and I already have some idea's of ways to avoid these problems, but don't hold me to it.

Finally,

It goes without saying that I'm having a busy year myself with Exam's so products might take a longer time baking in the oven.

But as always, they will be worth the wait.

Have a good one,

DJ PIP

Automatic Updates Anyone?

Automatic Updates Anyone?

The JustPip Video Downloader changes rapidly. Changes at You-Tube, changes in new versions and new features mean that almost every month you currently have to download the latest version, remove the old one and then start again.

Automatic updates are now part of the Video Downloader meaning that you will always be using the latest version.
Better yet! - I will never need to update other download sites that host my software, because each version will get automatically updated.

Download the Latest Version now, this feature is now built in!
